DJI Mavic Pro

mavic pro

The Mavic Pro is still available from the DJI store direct in some countries.

The DJI Mavic Pro is a small yet powerful drone with 24 high-performance computing cores with a range of 4.3 miles (7km).

It has 5 vision sensors plus a 4K camera stabilized by a 3-axis mechanical gimbal.

This has now been replaced by the DJI Mavic 2.

DJI Mavic Drone Comparison

When buying a Mavic drone new or more especially online on eBay, it is important to know the difference between the different models so that you can judge if you are getting a good deal or not and the features you are expecting.

Mavic Pro

DJI released the Mavic Pro in 2016 as the first drone in the Mavic series.

This drone was possibly the very first drone on the market for personal use that is capable of capturing 4K video. This was a considerable leap forward in aerial video photography quality.

The Mavic Pro has a flight range of approximately 4.3 miles (7km) with a battery flight time of 27 minutes.

Mavic Pro Platinum

DJI released an upgraded version of the Mavic Pro in 2017, the Mavic Pro Platinum.

The Platinum edition provides an extension to the flight time to a maximum of 30 minutes due to having improved motors and re-designed propellers making it both faster and more efficient.

Mavic Air

Released in 2018, the Mavic Air is the first “pocket-sized” portable drone being able to capture 4K video at 30 frames per second (FPS).

The Air has a 3-axis gimbal and 25mm lens. See the Mavic Air Specifications page for full details.

The Air also has a Smart-Capture feature, a three-directional environment sensing system, and a max flight time of 21 minutes.

Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 Zoom

The Mavic 2 Pro and the Mavic 2 Zoom were both launched by DJI in August if 2018.

Both of these drones include 10 obstacle-avoidance sensors on all sides and a max flight time of 31 minutes.

Video can be recorded in 4K video at 30 FPS.

Mavic 2 Pro
features a 4× Hasselblad camera and Hyper Timelapse feature.

How to tell the Mavic 2 Pro from the Mavic 2 Zoom?

Here is a side by side picture of the Pro and Zoom drones so that you can see the difference.

Mavic 2 Pro Zoom Comparison

Look at the camera shape, the ZOOM has a round camera whereas the PRO is more oblong and says “Hasselblad” at the top.

This should help you to see if an eBay listing title and description match the pictures they have.

Make sure to check as it does get confusing!

Mavic 2 Enterprise

The Mavic 2 Enterprise (M2E) was brought to the market by DJI on October 29, 2018.

The M2E incorporates the main features from the Mavic 2 line of consumer drones but also includes 3 modular accessories for both first-responder and industrial applications.

  • Spotlight (capable of 2400 lumens)
  • Speaker (capable of playing 10 prerecorded messages at 100 decibels)
  • Beacon, a strobe visible three miles away and is designed to clear FAA night waivers for night inspections.

Mavic Mini

DJI Mavic Mini

Most recently on October 30th, 2019, DJI announced the Mavic Mini.

This drone is a replacement for the now-discontinued DJI Spark and positioning it as a beginner camera drone.

The Mavic Mini camera is on a three-axis gimbal and features a 12MP sensor capable of 2.7K video at 30 FPS.

It is most notable for its portability and overall small size.

DJI’s marketing behind the Mavic Mini focuses on the weight of the drone at 249 grams (8.8 oz), allowing it to bypass (current as at December 2019) drone registration regulations in several western countries like the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom.

Please check your local drone laws before you purchase ANY drone to make sure you can fly it in your area and with or without registration and taking a Drone Pilot examination test.
